Transform Your Journaling: Shift to Future Realities

The FUTURE is todays’ PRESENT

Majority of us are familiar with journaling; in fact, there are quite a few self-help practices that promote journaling as a way to release mental blocks, limiting beliefs, negative thought patterns, etc. I am a fan of journaling myself … that is, until recently … I looked into my journal, trying to re-read previous entries and the feeling that came up was that of anxiety. It occurred to me afterwards that I was re-living the same old feeling I had when I wrote some of the entries in my present moment. Why, because I wrote down everything – the days when fear was my dominant feeling, the days I was uncertain about my next step in my journey … as so on… and so forth.

The PRESENT moment: The best thing I did for myself – that you can do if you ever catch yourself spiraling down the “rabbit hole” of re-living your old emotions reading your previous entries is to catch yourself and bring your mind back to the present moment. Shift your attention to an object in your immediate environment – by doing this, you are interrupting the pattern of thought that created the old emotions.

The call for CHANGE: Yes, I’m aware that it is impossible in the world we are in today to be happy 100% of the time or to not experience any negative feeling or emotions. We can decrease the amount of time and energy we spend in the no-so-pleasant state of mind by minimizing activities that causes these emotions in the first place. In the case of journaling – change the way we journal.

Journaling into FUTURE REALITY: Some of us still enjoy the act of writing down our thoughts, feelings, and experiences. We know for a fact that there is a 100% accuracy that we cannot go back into our past to change what happened or re-write the script in any way, shape, or form to create the outcome we wanted. The best thing we can do for ourselves that will also evoke the feeling of happiness within us is to journal into the future rather than ruminating and writing about our past experiences and how we wished we could have chosen a different outcome. 

By journaling into future reality, with the act of simply writing, we are starting the process of re-wiring our neural pathways for the experiences we prefer rather than ones that are no longer serving us. We are feeding our subconscious mind a set of new instructions with regards to the ways we want to feel, the types of lives we want to live, and the type of experiences we wish to manifest into our physical reality. 

On a personal level, since I made this simple shift in my journaling process, the level of anxiety and uncertainty I feel in my life have decreased significantly – and why… when I pick up my journal to re-read previous entries – before writing new entries, I am in a state of hopefulness, I am happy, and motivated to fill my journal with more good feeling thoughts that support my growth and goals.

THE TAKEAWAY: Remember that EVERYTHING is energy and everything is constantly vibrating to attract like energy – that includes our thoughts, feelings, and emotions. We have the choice to consistently choose our thoughts, feeling, and emotions – why not choose to write about what makes us feel good, whole, and complete every single chance we get.
