The Quiet Cost of Hustle Culture

When Your Body Craves Rest

Have you ever felt like your body was begging you to slow down, yet you kept pushing forward? I have, and it took me a while to put these thoughts together into words, probably because I’ve been living in the very cycle I’m trying to break.

For me, 2024 has been a year of experimentation and exploration. Despite knowing the importance of rest, I found myself ignoring my body’s cries for a pause. I talk a lot about balance but forgot to practice it when I needed it most.

The Hyper-Productive Society

The question I keep pondering is, is this relentless drive for productivity a uniquely North American trait, or is it a global phenomenon? From corporate offices to our own homes, we are constantly inundated with messages to do more, achieve more, and hustle harder.

But at what cost? Lately, I’ve been asking myself: When is enough, enough? Why are we racing from one goal to another without taking a moment to breathe?

The Invisible Toll of Hyper-Productivity

While mental and emotional stress from overworking is often discussed, the physical toll is just as real and often overlooked.

Not long ago, I hit a wall. I couldn’t focus, I was forgetting the simplest tasks, and all I wanted to do was sleep. My body wasn’t just whispering anymore; it was screaming for me to stop.

So, I did. I stepped away from “life,” took time off, and reflected on how I’d arrived at that point.

Seeking Balance

I’m all for ambition, setting goals, dreaming big, and taking inspired action to create the life we desire. But this year has taught me something invaluable: the journey is just as important as the destination.

Balance isn’t just a nice idea; it’s a necessity. We need time to rest and reflect, to appreciate how far we’ve come, and to recharge for the road ahead. Rest isn’t laziness; it’s a form of self-respect.

Take the First Step Toward Balance

Are you listening to your body? Is it whispering or screaming for a break? It’s time to embrace the art of intentional rest. Pause, reflect, and allow yourself to – BE – instead of constantly doing.

If you’re ready to explore the power of rest and mindfulness, and you are in the lower mainland British Columbia, join me for my upcoming Rise & Renew wellness workshop in January 2025. There is yoga, sound bath, and we will be setting our intentions for a balanced and fulfilling year ahead.

Let’s take this journey toward balance one step at a time.
