WHAT GIVES YOUR LIFE MEANING?
Over the last few weeks, I have heard my fair share of transition stories with an individual as young as 46 years old, being okay one moment and the next moment made his transition from a heart attack; the contractor who came in to work and was going to move the truck so that they could offload their tools for the day and never made it out of the truck.
I had a candid conversation with a couple of people who are dear to me recently – asking this question – if you knew you had 6 months to live, what would you do differently? The answer was exactly what I want to do, what I see myself doing, and the life I aspire living. To travel, explore, and learn about people and cultures; the best of all, to elevate and transform my life and help others do the same on their journey.
We are attached to our jobs, people, places, and things, hanging on for dear life, we numb our curiosities with fast on demand entertainment, reality TV shows, and food with the hopes that one day, when we get to be 65 years of age (or whatever the retirement age is where you reside), we will live life on our own terms.
We plan and save for the time we may never get to see; we put our lives on hold now in the hopes that the future that we may never see is better than our present reality. We work at jobs we can’t stand for years on end because the retirement package that we may never get to enjoy is good enough.
How have we gotten to the point that the benefits of the monotonous living that is slowly killing us is much better than the alternative which is take chances, to pivot, discover our true purpose and calling which in turn leads to creativity to benefit the highest and the greater good of not only yourself but the greater good of all concerned.
We are so busy “working” away the healthier and most vibrant years of our lives that we forget to actually explore the vast, rich cultures around us; we take the time we have for granted and on the flip side – many choose not think about the ONE thing that is virtually inevitable – TRANSITIONING – a stage of life that eventually catches up to each and every single one of us.
So, my dear friends, I am now asking you the same question, if you knew that you had 6 months to live, what would you do differently? What is stopping you from doing those things now?
