Impact Of REST On Your Transformation Journey

Impact Of REST On Your Transformation Journey

REST… WHY is it IMPORTANT?

Yes, GUILTY as charged. I am someone who gets squirrelly by nature, I have the need to have something going at all times, be it a book or working on a project, that I personally feel that If I’m not busy, I am wasting my life away. How and why, I concluded rest to be a waste of time is something I would attribute to my early programming in that I had been brought up to always be doing “something,” be it helping out around the house and rest was never really something we did or were thought to do.

Starting my business venture in 2021/2022 with GRNXCAPE, I would stay up into the wee hours of the night, only functioning on about 3 hours of sleep about 7 days of the week. The repercussion was that I was burnt out, got sick often, low energy and overall motivation.

REST – BUT WHY?

When we talk about rest, rest is one of the important elements of wellness and transformation that we seem to take for granted. We go about our daily to-do-lists, stressing about what didn’t get done, how we should have done certain tasks differently, which e-mail or phone call we never got to … the list goes on and on that -when we do get the time to rest, we do not fully disconnect from the “noise” and immerse ourselves into that rest cycle.

PLANNING YOUR TIME: We are in a time period where we are busier than ever, with multiple people, social media, and information sources competing for our time and attention. Some days, we spend hours into the late nights working on projects, responding to e-mails, messages, scrolling through the latest gossip or headlines, sacrificing our downtime and rest-time to keep up to date to the latest news, to responding to that one last e-mail, watching that one last Netflix episode (I’ve done this too – Binge watched a show for 12 hours straight!).

Although majority of the tools available today permits us to stay connected to the world around us, more than ever, planning and utilizing our time efficiently to incorporate rest is also as important. On the quest of researching the topic surrounding finding balance between rest, work, life, business, and play, what I’ve learned along the way is that writing rough draft of tasks for one week at a time, segmenting these tasks into smaller chunks by day, and by being moderately flexible to move tasks around is the key to achieving a balanced life.

This technique requires discipline and patience with yourself and the process but guarantees that you will achieve your goals in a healthy sustainable micro-steps and learn more about yourself and develop new skills in the process.

Planning your time in this way not only reduces stress and mental load on the brain, breaking down and writing tasks down increases your motivation and productivity along the way.

SCHEDULING REST TIME: Scheduling time for REST is a prerequisite for the harmony of the mind, body, and soul. Planning your time should include a day or so set aside to relax and reconnect with YOURSELF. By gifting your body and the brain this necessary down-time, you are able fully disconnect and reflect on your journey, as well as gain a fresh perspective on life.

On my journey, I have learned that rest is important for me to keep my creative juices flowing, to be able to connect to my higher self, and an easier path to picking up on insights and messages from the SOURCE.
