Sound-Bath Meditation – What is it?
You most likely are familiar with meditation/meditating; you may not actively participate or incorporate it in your daily practice, but in a general sense have an idea what it entails.
There are different ways in which people meditate: walking, running, rock climbing, art, or sitting meditation. Until the earlier part of 2023, sitting meditation was my go-to morning practice. I had a designated space in which I sat, crystals in hand, while soft music played in the background for about 20 to 30 minutes. Having a go-to stable, grounding morning routine was the catalyst to my growth, transformation, and my spiritual evolution.
All that changed when I was guided towards a 21-day quantum tone sound healing challenge. The program had such a profound impact on me mentally and emotionally and I knew I needed to share this modality with the world in my own way.
What is sound-bath meditation?
Sound-bath meditation is an alternative form of meditative experience that utilizes sound from singing bowls – Crystal /Tibetan, gongs, drums, and other form of acoustic instruments – to stimulate and promote overall health and well-being of a person.
It is an alternative holistic modality that can be used alongside yoga, meditation, and/or breathwork, to detoxify the body and improve its overall functioning.
How does Sound-Bath benefit the human-body?
The human body consists of approximately 70% liquid. The cells in the body have what is known as receptors that respond to vibrations. Vibrations presented to and received by these cells have the capacity to alter the behavior of these cells within the body; these receptors vibrate in a specific pattern – either in alignment or out of alignment – for the overall wellbeing of the entire system.
Due to increasing number of stressors presented to the human body on day-to-day basis, these receptors vibrate out of alignment causing disruptions and dissonance within the system resulting in many physical, mental, and emotional ailments commonly talked about in our society today.
With sound meditation, the vibration from these acoustic instruments penetrates the cells within the body and through the process of entrainment, restoring order back into the cells.
Some benefits of Sound-Bath meditation are:
- Calms the nervous system
- Relieves symptoms of stress and anxiety
- Improves focus and attention
- Promotes positive mental attitude
- Improves sleep and sleep quality
- Catalyst for mind-body balancing to improve overall health and wellness.
Sound-Bath Mediation Contraindications:
The vibrations from Sound-Bath sessions can be intense and can have a detoxifying effect on the body. It is generally not recommended for people who are pregnant, with pacemakers, or undergoing any intense medical treatment.
Notable Books about sound healing:
I’ve read and come across a few books regarding sound healing that I’ve found very helpful. Some of these books are:
- Sound Medicine – How to Use the Ancient Science of Sound to Heal the Body and Mind by Kulreet Chaudhary, MD.
- Tuning the Human Biofield by Eileen Day Mckusick
